This league has 36 total Majors players (ages 11-12).

They set up three teams of 12 for their regular season.

They play each other through the season.

When it comes time to field an All Star team one ENTIRE team just so happens to be the official All Star team.

It seems to me they simply

(1) stacked the team at the beginning of the season,

(2) allowed them to practice together, and

(3) allowed them to play games together, to get ready for All Stars.

Proper?

I would say no. Did they only have 8 LA 12 players on this team?

How could they have run a draft and some how ended up all on same team.

I don't know the age break-out for the team.

I am trying to find out their selection process for the regular season.

Sounds a lot like Peachtree LL from a couple of years ago, doesn't it?

With 3 teams there is "no way" all of the All Stars end up on the same team.

That would mean that the last player that this team drafted was better than the first round picks of the other teams - sorry, not going to happen in a "normal" draft.

How did they "set up" the three teams?

As Jamief asked - Did this team have more than eight 12 year olds on it for the Regular Season?

Did this "All Star" team win every game they played?

What were the won/loss records of the three teams?

How was the All Star team selected?

------------------------------------------------------

Now, all of that said, this "could be" on the up and up !!

How, you may ask.

The league could allow the manager of their Top Team to pick the All Star Team and if that is the case I suppose the manager could just select all the players from his/her team.

So it "could" happen but it sure "smells fishy" to me!

We had a situation this spring. We interleague for every level of SB and one of the teams sent me their age breakdowns. They had 1 team of 11 players, 9 were LA12.

Raised some red flags so I questioned them. Yes they had a waiver for the 9 LA12 and for only 11 players. Okay it's a small league so didn't question it further.

I found out 2 weeks later, 1 week before our first games that they had another; by their own admission; "weaker" majors team that registered late and wanted to play together but wouldn't be interleaguing with the rest of us because they didn't want to travel. In total the league has 12 LA 12 players, Split 9/3. Because the original team was already formed when the extra team registers only 2 weeks before the start of the season they didn't do anything.

I pushed it up to the DA. He signed the original waivers based on the information he was given at the time and didn't want to push for a redraft etc.

I wasn't satisfied and asked him to call Region.

I was told the waiver stands because it was granted and processed correctly.

No redraft. Needless to say 9 of the 11 Majors ALLSTARS are from this original team.

The argument was that these girls have always played together and would be our Allstar team even if they were split up for regular season. They were registered and put on a team so we asked for the waiver. It's not our fault the additional 12s and 11s came out to play only 2 weeks prior to the start of the season.

My take from all this is you can do whatever you want. So next year register your ALLSTARS First. Get all your ducks in a row. Then reach out for more players.

You should try to find out what the league's policy is for selecting their Tournament Team.

The proper method is to have it in your by-laws, however, either way it should be a method that the BOD's voted on and approved.

If the BOD voted to allow the manager of the first place team to pick the entire team it could be legitimate, though very shady.

Jamie,

That story stinks as much as the selection method in this original post.

Assume for the sake of argument that the league with 3 teams did stack one team improperly and had the whole team move forward for all stars. What would be the punishment for that? I have seen stacked teams a lot and none ever seem to get in any trouble.

IF someone were to complain about an illegal Regular Season Draft
that resulted in a stacked team that ended up being the All Star team AND it was investigated and found to be true the team could be removed from the Tournament.

Teams have been removed in the past for "illegal" drafts.

I've known a few people that think sending the whole first place team to All Stars is a good idea...We use to be in a district that didn't have a TOC tournament for the first place teams.....if the draft is done legal the board could make that their selection method for All Stars.

Why would you have your Top Team be your All Star team?
I would think the best player(s) on some the other teams would be better players than some of the players on your Top Team.

There are probably a good pitcher/hitter or two on some of the other teams.

Chemistry on defense would be my reason....They've all played in 12+ games together.

I like to see every team in our 4-5 team major baseball division have a representative....I'm just throwing out a school of thought I've ran into more than once.

I never seen all majors teams represented equally on the All-Star Team, but I've also never seem more than half the players come from one team.

At least at 12. At 10 you sometimes seem a big group from one team, but the following years drafts take care of that.
