Has there been a recent change in how "property players" are defined?  Came up in discussion the other day, as LLI's website seems to differ from the Rule Book.

Under Duration of Title, the Rule Book previously stated:  "Each player acquired shall, for the duration of their Major Little League career, be the property of the team and league or division making the acquisition, unless subsequently traded or released."

However, the LLI website includes the following:

Off-Season Release: Players in the Major Division and above may request to be released during the off-season, which must be approved by majority vote of the Board. If approved, release provides player to selected to another team in a division but not to move down a division.

This would appear to let players opt-off a team, with Board approval.  Couldn't this cause issues in small leagues, with only a couple teams, that don't re-draft each year?  Not a big fan of "property players" but giving players an opt-out provision doesn't seem to align with the Rule Book.

It does align, Duration of Title says unless subsequently traded or RELEASED.
This is not new, it's been this way for years and years and years.

It's a Request to be Released, it can be Rejected by the BOD.

Example: Jimmy is 11 and is on John Smith's team. For whatever reason Jimmy and/or his parents don't get along with Mr. Smith so the following year they request Jimmy be released so he can play for a different manager.

Have your PA talk to the manager and Jimmy/his family and try to work out the problem if possible.
If it can't be resolved have Mr. Smith work out a Trade.
If Jimmy is a good player it's not fair to Mr. Smith to have to give him up and not get a player in return.

We re-draft every year so this isn't an issue but we do run into a similar case where Jimmy/his parents request he not be allowed to be drafted onto Mr. Smith's team again!
