Regular Season Playoffs Counting Towards All Star Eligibility

I'm sure this has been asked and answered on here before, but I can't find it.

 

If our 4 regular season Majors teams play a small double elimination style playoffs to get a champion, do those games not count towards the 12 game minimum a team must schedule (and play)?

If memory serves me correctly, any and all regular season games count towards the minimum of 12.

 

I can't see why they would not.

When my son was in All Stars in 2014 (I was Manager and had to keep the binder) and in 2016 they counted all games for the regular season "team" toward All Stars calculations.
The District Administrator did not differentiate between regular season games and playoff games.

Regulation VII
Schedules
(a) the schedule of games for the Regular season shall be prepared by the Board of Directors of the league and must provide for not less than twelve (12) games per team per regular season against other Little League teams within their respective division, exclusive of playoffs and tournament games.


TOURNAMENT RULES AND GUIDELINES
League Eligibility
2) The league must have scheduled and played, at a minimum, a 12 game (per team) regular season, exclusive of playoffs and tournament games, ...



They both say "exclusive of playoffs and tournament games"!

Maybe they didn't give our count of the games any thought because each team played in excess of 20 regular scheduled games.
Good reason why the Rulebook should be reviewed on occasion.

Is "playoffs" in those rules intra-league playoffs or TOC/some big inter-league playoffs?

Lou, in your leagues, did they always count the in-house playoffs?

We do not count our in-house playoffs used to determine the division champs.
For us it's only one game for two of the division teams (1st half winner vs 2nd half winner).
If the same team wins both halves there is no playoff, they are the division champs.

We also don't count our District Mid-Season Tournament games nor our end of season District Top Team/Tournament of Champions games.

Not counting those games is not a big deal since, depending on the Division, our teams, with in-house games and inter-league games, generally play between 20-24 "regular season" games.

Good point.
This year a couple of teams luckily just hit 12 before the playoffs (weather has killed us).
I said it didn't matter because our in-house playoffs count, but the DA said they don't count towards the 12, but they count for the 60%.
I don't think that makes any sense.
In years past those always counted for both, but now the DA is coming up with something totally different.

Not sure how the games would not count towards the 12 games but count towards the 60%?
Either they count or they don't and they don't!

Sounds like some of your teams need to make-up a few rain-outs.

Any playoff games do not count towards the 12 nor the 60%.

The twelve games could be more of an issue in some places this year.
As of this weekend, in the seven weeks of the season, we have had 13 rainout days.
Many of those were weekends, so many games were lost in a day. (We can have 28 games on a Saturday, though there are usually several fewer.)

Rained out games are never evenly divided among the teams, (we have one that only lost one game).
It looks like we should be good though.

You don't have to play all 12 games until the start of The Tournament.
That should give you enough time to get in any make-ups that are needed.

For example, the Approved Tournament Schedule for LL (major) BB shows a start date of Monday, June 25th.
That's still 3 weeks away!

Great point Lou.

Problem we have is that our last make-up for Majors Softball to get 12 in is scheduled for 6/13.

Our Affidavit Night for the Tournament is 6/15 with the tournament scheduled to start on 6/18.

That gives our District team a whopping 5 days of practice.

You don't have to wait for their 12th game to be played to start All Star practices you just have to play 12 prior to the start of The Tournament.
So, for example, if a team has played say 9 or 10 games any players that have played 8 or more are already eligible for All Stars since they meet the 60% of 12 games.

Why wait to start practices if the players already meet the eligibility requirements?

    What does the "Approved Tournament Schedule" mean? 

    We were set to play season finals on 
the 23rd (24thrain date) and were recently told that is the first games of All-Star is the 23rd. We are still working as squeezing in playoffs.

  And we were able to schedule make-up games for the one team that needed it. When we went to a 20 game schedule, we stopped doing most make-up games. (It has become so hard to reschedule games these days with kids so packed with activities).  But one team was down to 13 games on its schedule, (it had seven rain-outs), but baring more rainouts, (we are holding at 14 days) 
it should end up with 15.

The "Approved Scheduled" are just that.
They are the dates LL approved for the various levels of Tournament play for each Division of BB and SB.
If a DA wants to start earlier he/she is supposed to get approval (some don't bother, they just start when they want to).
