Pre-season scrimmages start Saturday, Opening Day is next Saturday.
Local league uses these scrimmages as "training" for their youth umpires.
So, Saturday I get to be the Game Coordinator for one of the fields for games at 9:00, 11:30, 2:00 and 4:30.
Should be a heck of a day!

Long day.

[Insert obligatory comment about southern leagues starting while we have snow or ice and 20-degree temps.]

At least I don't have to umpire all day.
Being a Game Coordinator is pretty easy, unless of course the you know what hits the fan.

As for us down here in Florida starting play while the north is still frozen: been there done that.
Originally from Massachusetts but also lived in Connecticut, upstate New York and Michigan before moving to Florida 30 years ago.
Several years are ago we moved to North Carolina for two years and Arkansas for a year before moving back to Florida last spring.

======
Update: Pretty good day.
It was a little long but the games were pretty well played and there were no blowouts.
Youth umpires did very well, plate umps had good strike zones, no complaints from any of the managers/coaches.
One "ejection" when a player who struck out threw his helmet at the fence, ump gave him the heave-ho.

Oh, by the way, sunny day, temps in the upper 70s/low 80s!
