Batter hits pitch in the air, ball goes over 1B then slices to the right and eventually out to dead ball area.
Ball was in the air the entire time, including when it went over 1B.
Fair or Foul?

A batted ball that first touches the ground, fielder, (whatever) BEYOND frist or third base is fair or foul based on the position of the ball when first touched.

A batted ball that first touches the ground BEFORE first base is fair or foul depending on the location of the ball as it passes first or third base (or is touched by a fielder).

A batted ball not otherwise determined per the above and striking first, second, or third base is fair.

If any part of the ball is on or over fair territory it is fair.

Foul, as previously stated.

JML - if you call it fair what base award would you give?
Example: Batter hits a fly ball down right field line over fair territory and it curves foul and goes out-of-bounds (over the fence into the stands) about a foot or two in front of the foul pole, IF you call it Fair, is it a single, double, triple???

If the ball leaves the field, fair or foul is determined by whether the ball was between or outside the foul poles.  :-)

Only if in flight.

Thanks:
Battening down the hatches !!!
Looks like it will be a 2 or maybe a 1 by the time it gets to us.
Path still shifting west so we'll have to wait and see.

Just canceled our Fall Ball Inter-League Scheduling Meeting on Sunday!

UPDATE: Lots of high winds and rain. Lost power Sunday Night but got it back Monday. Hectic week but things are pretty much back to normal.

Lou, I agree that it is a foul ball. I had a "District Umpire" tell me that it was a fair Ball. I respect the Blues from District, but his answer didnt sound right. Just wanted to see what you guys' thoughts were.
Thanks

So, ask the District Umpire what the base award would be!!!

Of course, you could ask him where, in the definition of Fair Ball in Section 2 of the LL Rulebook, it says that this would be a fair ball.
Then again, you might ask him to read the definition of a Foul Ball (I hope he knows that dead ball territory is in foul territory).

Seems like someone needs to attend an Umpire 101 Refresher Course. B)
