Top of 11, R1.
Chopper to F3, F3 throws to F6.
R1 starts towards second, reverses direction and slides back into first just as the throw from F6 gets there.
F3 has to side-step around R1 sliding back to bag.
Throw goes by F3, R1 then gets up and runs to second.
Red Sox want interference on R1.
They want a "double-play" call.

Umps confer, 4 1/2 minutes later, no interference.
R1 out at second, batter safe at first.

Red Sox "Protest".

I was at The Sorcerer. Haven't seen enough angles on the replays.

Possibly he thought 1B had been tagged so he could (and should) go back. Maybe coach yelled "back".  Maybe F3 yelled "tag".

Yanks didn't score so it's going to get a "no impact" ruling if it's even turned in AND considered a rule issue versus judgement.

How is that not interference?...Sidestepping or not.

R1 shouldn't be diving back on a force play.

The only thing I could think is what Rich said.
Maybe he thought F3 had tagged first an then thrown to second.
If that was the case he could return to first, which is what he did.
Can't read his mind so I'm not sure why he did what he did.
Sure looked like Interference to me!

Also it was 10 minutes later after the ball was hit.
They announced 4 min 59 sec, but the network re wound the tape and had 10 min of delay.

What about HR ball that was clearly Foul later in the game and Boston did not have any challenges left.

So much for speeding up the game.

Red Sox vs Yankees and speeding up the game are conflicting terms!!!
Four hours plus is very common for a 9 inning game, if it goes extra innings fahgetaboudit !!!
