In a 9/10 Boys Sectional Game, a visiting team traveled 2 hrs with 9 players. During the 3rd inning a player diving for a ball in the outfield gets hit on the head with the batted ball, and goes into the dugout. Can the team continue to play with 8 players on the field? or 7 if another player gets injured or ejected?

What happens when his turn comes up to bat?

This is 9/10 Baseball Sectionals.

Cannot play with less than 9.
Stop play.
Call WP for a decision on what to do about the game.

Rich is correct, Stop the Game and have the Tournament Director call Williamsport.
Williamsport is the only one that can declare a forfeit of a Tournament Game.

Obviously, this is the major drawback with only having 9 players at a game.

The Umpire said it was ok.
The Game Director told them to put that player back on the field. Start and finish game with 9 players!!!

Talked to DA from the team that was traveling and he said they can do it Juniors and above.
Is that correct Juniors and above you can do it?

Talked to another ADA today and he is also a high School baseball Coach, and he said in High School they can start with 9 and finish with 8, and when his turn comes up in the Batting Order it's an OUT?

Put the player back on the field? What?

Sorry Johnny, you have a broken ankle, but the Game Director said you have to go back on the field so we're going to wheel you out there in a wheelchair and drop you down in right field. You won't be able to stand so just sit down and hope a line drive doesn't sail towards you. Thanks for taking one for the team.

In Little League you cannot play a game with 8 players (except in T-Ball and Non-Competative Minors).

Now, if the injured player "recovers" and is put back into the game then you have 9 players again.

No way should an injured player should go back into the game while still injured, regardless of who tells him to.
Especially when it's a head injury.

=====
Plesh: years ago that happened in a senior softball game.
As it was told to me:
Top of 7, Visitors ahead by 6-7 runs.
Girl hurts ankle sliding in to second.
Team only has 9 players.
Coaches go out and talk to her and she just stands up and stays on second.
Next batter strikes out for out #3.
They bring a glove out to her and she stands about a foot behind second on defense.
Other team does not score in bottom of 7, game over.
Two players help her off the field.
Goes to the hospital - broken ankle.

And Lou gave me a hard time about DA's  in the "do over game" thread.  :)

And the ADA is correct - it's legal in HS.  This isn't HS.

As I've often said:
1) There are Good DAs and Bad DAs
2) DAs are like snowflakes, no two are alike

Problem is, most of the stories you hear are about the Bad DAs!
